The CT 17 winner Pakistan cricket team’s captain is witnessing most delightful days of his life era and on Tuesday, he got one more reward for his work, Sarfraz Ahmed is now officially named the captain of Pakistan’s Test side by Shahryar Khan, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman. He also said that Sarfraz had accepted the offer made to him to lead the side in Tests.
Respect and love showered by the cricket fans of Pakistan and all those residing outside of Pakistan toward Sarfraz shows how popular he has been in the Pak cricket fans. The viral photos of his fans outside his home sparked controversies when some of his fans took to twitter on fire by asking a question like: SRK WHO? as a caption of those images.
“I take this opportunity to announce Ahmed as our Test captain in addition to one-day and Twenty20 captain,” Khan said at a function. “I and Chief Selector Inzamam-ul-Haq had decided already and I think this is the right time to declare it.”
What did Sarfraz Khan say on this occasion?
“I am honored to be appointed Test captain, I will do my best to lift the team in all three formats and will not rest on Champions Trophy laurels.”
Sarfraz, who led Pakistan to Under-19 World Cup triumph in 2006, had recently taken the senior national side to their maiden Champions Trophy win, which turned out to be Pakistan’s first win in an ICC 50-over tournament since the 1992 World Cup.
Against the odds, Pakistan, who were at No 8 in the ICC Rankings and under threat of missing out on a direct qualification to the 2019 World Cup, beat South Africa, Sri Lanka, England and India enroute winning the championship after having suffered a heavy loss against India in the tournament opener.
Despite poor showings in limited-overs cricket in the last couple of years, Pakistan remained a dominant force in the longest format, especially at their adopted home – UAE. During this period, they also went on to become the No 1 side in Test cricket by drawing the series in England 2-2. With both Misbah and Younis Khan retiring from the game, Sarfraz will have massive shoes to fill in, especially with a young squad at his disposal.
Sarfraz is set to become Pakistan’s 32nd Test captain when Pakistan will play against Sri Lanka in the Test series later this year. This is also the first time Pakistan will have one captain across all formats, since 2012.We, at hotstarforpc, congratulate this Champions Trophy Captain for his class performances.
